Outrank Alternatives

The Answered team · 6 min read

TL;DR: Outrank ships a lot of content cheaply. Two things to weigh: it runs a reciprocal backlink network between its customers, which is a link scheme under Google's guidelines, and it does not measure whether any of the publishing made you more visible in AI answers.

What Outrank does well

Volume and speed. Point it at a site, pick topics, and articles appear. For someone with no content operation at all, going from zero to publishing weekly is a real improvement.

The two concerns

The backlink exchange

Outrank places links between its own customers. So does BabyLoveGrowth. Commercially it works, it manufactures domain rating quickly.

Under Google's link spam guidelines, reciprocal linking at scale for ranking purposes is a link scheme. The structural risk is that it is one network: a manual action does not hit one site, it hits everyone in the exchange at once. And you, not the vendor, own the domain that takes the hit.

No measurement loop

Articles get published. Whether ChatGPT started naming you afterwards is not tracked, so there is no way to tell working topics from wasted ones. Topic selection ends up driven by keyword tools that invent plausible terms with little real volume, which is why the sub-$50 tier produces so many pages that rank for nothing.

The alternatives

The volume question

More is not better past a point. Publishing 300 pages with no semantic dedupe produces pages competing with each other for the same query, most autobloggers are stateless per article, so nothing prevents it.

Thirty articles chosen from measured gaps, each checked against everything already published, beats three hundred invented ones. That is not a hedge, it is just what the data does.

First-person view

I would not use a link exchange under a domain I cared about. The upside is a faster domain rating number; the downside is correlated across every participant and outside your control. That trade only looks good if you are planning to be gone before it resolves.

FAQ

Is a reciprocal link network definitely penalised?

Not definitely, enforcement is inconsistent. The point is that the risk is concentrated and you carry it.

Does content still work for AI answers?

Yes, for questions where the model runs a search. For questions it answers from memory, no. See how to get recommended by ChatGPT.

How many articles a month is right?

Fewer than the volume tools sell you. Fifteen to thirty well-targeted pieces outperform sixty invented ones.
